"Ashes of Ego"

In Buddhism, the phoenix is regarded as sacred, only presenting itself during periods of harmony and prosperity. Symbolizing the attainment of enlightenment, the mythical creature rises from the ashes of the death of one's ego, bringing with it a message of hope and rebirth.

As practitioners, we strive to use jiu-jitsu as a means of personal refinement, striving to rise from the ashes of our ego. If a sense of connection to our inner self is maintained, we can therefore transform, rising from the ashes of our ego as we step off the mat.
